7 BIG questions for Ibiza Celebrant, Ben!
I’ve known Ben since the beginning of 2014, when I made the move to Ibiza full time.
I had dreams of running my own business and working from home, but while I was trying to figure out how to make that happen, I got a job working in a bar in a family resort, and Ben was my manager there for two summers.
Then, a few years later, around the same time that I was completing my professional Celebrant training with UKSOC, Ben bought a restaurant which he co-owns with his friend and business partner. He gave me a few hours work there per day to keep me afloat whilst I launched Your Day Ibiza in its first year.
So, after 5 years of friendship and experience of working together already, I jumped at the chance to get Ben on board when he reached out to me about becoming a celebrant. Ben’s working style (which is super friendly, fun and relaxed, all whilst getting a hell of a lot done!), his hosting experience, and his eagerness to get all the details of his work perfect - as well as the adoration he has and the way he talks about his own wife and kids - made the decision a very easy one for me! He is the perfect fit for the job.
Ben joined the Your Day Ibiza team in summer 2019, and he is already racking up bookings for 2020. I’m so excited for our newest venture together!

Oh, and one last thing… Ben makes a mean cocktail! Ask him about creating a signature cocktail during your ceremony that symbolises you as a couple. ;)
Ben, what made you originally want to become a celebrant?
My wife Claire is totally responsible! She is not a very praising type of person - but, when we were having a conversation about Danielle and Your Day Ibiza - she told me completely out the blue that I’d make an excellent celebrant, and I should arrange a meeting with Danielle to find out more.
Danielle & I have known each other for some years and are good friends. We’ve worked together a couple of times on different projects - so she was happy to meet with me and inform me on what celebrancy is. Danielle agreed with Claire.
I guess with my experience as a host & compere it puts me in a very advantageous position.
People have always told me (including my own mum & my mother-in-law) that I am a ‘people’s person’ and ‘very likeable & approachable’ so again, I guess I’ve got the right personality to be a Celebrant.
For me to become a Celebrant I wanted to know if I had what it takes - to meet engaged couples who wanted to get married here in Ibiza and were looking for a Celebrant that they felt happy & connected with, to create & write a bespoke ceremony tailored to a specific couples personality & requirements and then to deliver that ceremony with all the passion, love & romance that they deserve on their wedding day!
I can happily say that after watching Danielle perform a ceremony just once was enough for me to not only decide that this is something I can do, but, on reflection, Claire was right, this was me all over!
How does your own experience of married life help you to create ceremonies for couples you work with?
I draw on my own experience’s every time for sure. My own wedding day as well as married life with children. I can relate to everything a couple is going through.
Getting married is VERY exciting but, there is always a stage in the journey that you do panic about the enormity of the occasion. Claire & I felt very nervous a number of times on the lead up to our wedding here in Ibiza. You want it to be perfect and you start to put pressure on yourselves. Again, I use my own experience to help put minds at rest, making sure that the big day is as relaxed & enjoyable as possible.
What is your favourite ritual you’ve seen performed in a wedding and why?
I’ve performed the Sand Unity Ceremony and I really enjoyed that. We did a unique take on it where the couple blended 2 vases of sand, each from the person’s birthplace - to reflect where they come from and their individual background and heritage.
What does the average day in your life look like?
Being a partner in a restaurant, my average day usually consists of a bit of problem-solving, assisting my staff, food/cocktail making/live entertainment/advertising and quite a bit of forward planning. If I’m not at my restaurant, I am either performing a ceremony or I am spending time with my family.
Of course in the winter months, when the restaurant is closed, I spend all my time writing ceremonies, meeting with my colleagues at Your Day Ibiza, posting on social media and researching ceremonies and content, and creating inspiration where I can.
What are your favourite things about living on Ibiza? And how do you make the most of it?
Obviously the weather is probably the biggest plus to living here and my wife & I always try to spend time with the kids on the gorgeous beaches here.
Do you have a celebrant ‘bucket list’?
Wow, that’s a question I’d not thought about before now….
Erm, well, I am yet to perform a ceremony on the actual beach so that would be super cool!
Carly & I have had a giggle at the thought of a super hero themed wedding. We both also work with Fairytale Ibiza (mine & my wife’s other business - children’s parties & events) and are often found performing as children’s characters from movies or cartoons.
We giggle that it won’t be long before some superhero fans ask us to perform a ceremony dressed as Batman or one of the cast of Frozen. But, I wouldn’t say it’s on my bucket list haha!
And finally, how would you best describe your Celebrant style, and what can a couple expect their ceremony to be if they chose you as their celebrant?
I get asked this question many times. My answer is ‘serious but fun’. I totally understand the gravity & seriousness of being a Celebrant and performing the ceremony at a wedding! There is no bigger privilege for me!
I am a fun, happy person who also loves the romance & emotional side of being in love and couples who want to marry and spend every day with their best friend & partner. Personally I always aim to get a few giggles and a proud tear from my ceremonies, and also deliver a beautiful ceremony for marrying two people who are totally in love with each other.
