Getting married abroad is becoming more and more popular - with 1 in 4 UK weddings happening overseas with, not surprisingly, European destinations being the top choice. And Ibiza is fast becoming a firm favourite.

Planning a wedding in Ibiza is magical - from sun-soaked beaches to scenic cliffs, Ibiza’s landscape adds an unforgettable backdrop to any celebration. But with all that sun comes warmth, and when it comes to choosing the perfect wedding dress, staying cool and comfortable is key.

Here’s our lovely Lisa’s guide to help you pick a wedding dress that’s both stylish and heat-friendly for your Ibiza wedding.

Choose a lightweight fabric

Ibiza summers are beautifully warm, but they can also be intense, especially in peak wedding season when the average temperature is over 30 degrees…and has been known to hit 40 in July and August. When choosing your dress, focus on lightweight, breathablefabrics that let your skin breathe and prevent you from overheating.

Here are some fabrics to consider:

Chiffon - soft, flowy, and lightweight - perfect for beach weddings.

Tulle - airy and delicate, this material brings volume without the weight.

Organza - sheer and structured, organza gives you a bit of body without weighing you down.

Silk crepe - this fabric is cool to the touch and drapes beautifully.

Opt for a pale colour (rather than white)

While the classic white wedding dress is timeless, you may want to consider lighter shades like ivory, blush, or even a pale pastel. These colours tend to reflect more light, which can help keep you cooler. Plus, they pair beautifully with Ibiza’s sunlit beaches and natural beauty.

Consider a boho style.

Bohemian-inspired wedding dresses are not only effortlessly chic but often made with lightweight, flowing fabrics that are perfect for the Ibiza heat. Look for dresses with delicate lace or off-the-shoulder sleeves that offer both comfort and breathability. Boho dresses often feature flowing, relaxed silhouettes that move with the mediterranean breeze and also capture that laid-back, carefree spirit of the island.

Open backs and no straps.

When it comes to keeping cool, an open-back design is both beautiful and practical. Open backs, halter necklines, and strapless options allow airflow, which can be a lifesaver in Ibiza’s heat. Just remember to apply sunscreen beforehand and top up later in the day - the last thing youwant on your wedding day and honeymoon is sunburn!

Top Tip: consider a clear, spray sunscreen formula (minimum SPF30) asthey absorb into the skin and won’t leave a white cast or residue which increases the potential for a "flashback" effect in wedding photos. Thereare plenty of options on the market so you can try a few out before your big day.

Add sheer sleeves and light layers

If you prefer a bit more coverage, go for sheer fabrics or light, detachable layers. Cap sleeves or delicate straps can add elegance without trapping heat. Long, sheer sleeves can add a romantic touch to your dress while still letting in the breeze.

Dare to be different!

For a slightly more unconventional look why not consider a shorter dress style, like a tea-length gown, a thigh split or even a cool bridal jumpsuit? This is especially great for beachside ceremonies, where trains and full skirts can be tricky to manage.

A shorter dress is practical, fun, and great for showcasing barefoot elegance and that perfect pedicure! A thigh split or jumpsuit give you a distinct and elegant look - especially when teamed with floaty layers and dramatic touches. eden designed and made her own dress for the ceremony and retro jumpsuit for the evening and both were show stoppers!

Keep accessories light

In the Ibiza summer heat, less is often more when it comes to accessories. Intricate veils, elaborate headpieces and heavy jewellery can feel uncomfortable and very hot. Consider a flower crown, a delicate headband, or a simple veil that won’t add extra weight. Fresh flowers in your hair or a floral accessory can naturally bring the island vibe to your look.

Make time for cooldown moments

Finally, don’t forget to plan for ways to stay cool throughout the day. Keep a small electric hand fan nearby (some savvy brides have even incorporated them into ther bouquets), drink plenty of water, and discuss some shady spots for photos with your photographer beforehand - sunset shoots with a coastal backdrop are a must! Even simple tricks like using cooling mists and blotting papers can help keep you looking fresh and radiant.
